La Comisión para la Regularización de la Tenencia de la Tierra, Corett,

The Commission for Regularization of Land Tenure (CORETT) was launched in 1973, in order to foresee the availability of spaces for the growth of the populations and attend irregular settlements in communal areas.

At present, CORETT is a decentralized public organization of the Executive Branch of the Federal Government. It has technical and social characteristics, legal power and own resources. CORETT is focusing mainly on:

  1. To put in order land ownerships in cases where illegal settlements are located on social and federal land, and
  2. To promote the acquisition of land, especially from social sources, for the urban development and housing.

Since 1999, the CORETT has been integrated into Federal Government's social sector, coordinated by the Secretary of Social Development (SEDESOL), related to the planning of the social policy in order to decrease the poverty related to the lack of legal empowerment of the properties of the poor, and contribute to put in order the settlements.
